The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a local referral agency certified by the State Bar of California, governed by State law and local regulations, and operated by Nevada County Legal Assistance, Inc.  LRS is a California non-profit public benefit corporation.

For a small fee, LRS provides clients an initial consultation with an attorney qualified and experienced in the appropriate area of law.  All participating attorneys are licensed by the California State Bar.  Each attorney has been screened to ensure that they have not been subject to any disciplinary action that would affect the quality of their representation, and all certify that they carry malpractice insurance. 

LRS’ mission is to promote access to attorneys for those unable to locate or afford legal representation and to provide the public direct referrals to qualified counsel.  LRS also provides free information about the availability of alternative dispute resolution services, information about lawyers and specific areas of law to help improve the quality and affordability of legal services.
