The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a local referral agency certified by the State Bar of California, governed by State law and local regulations, and operated by Nevada County Legal Assistance, Inc., in partnership with the Area 4 Agency.  LRS is a California non-profit public benefit corporation.

For a small fee, LRS provides clients a one half-hour initial consultation with an attorney qualified and experienced in the appropriate area of law.  All participating attorneys are licensed by the California State Bar and are members of either the Nevada or Placer County Bar Associations.  Each attorney has been screened to ensure that they have not been subject to any disciplinary action that would affect the quality of their representation, and all certify that they carry malpractice insurance. 

LRS’ mission is to promote access to attorneys for those unable to locate or afford legal representation and to provide the public direct referrals to qualified counsel.  LRS also provides free information about the availability of alternative dispute resolution services, information about lawyers and specific areas of law to help improve the quality and affordability of legal services.  LRS referrals cover the following practice areas: bankruptcy, business law, conservatorships, contract law, criminal law, domestic violence, guardianships, estate planning, elder law, family law, general-civil litigation, labor and employment, landlord and tenant, probate, personal injury, real estate and social security.

LRS’ days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Clients should call for an appointment at (530) 272-5962.
